Damaris is an orphan born and raised in Nairobi. She considers her acceptance at the prestigious Starehe Girls' Centre in the outskirts of Nairobi to be a "true blessing from God." Situated on 50 acres of preserve among coffee plantations and a beautiful lake in its backyard, this school has offered Damaris a chance to blossom -- a chance she has taken full advantage of.
Outside of her class work, Damaris sings in the choir and serves as a school representative. She struggles to suppress her excitement when stating, "I am happy to inform you that there are monkeys in our school. During leisure time, we play and watch the monkeys jump from tree to tree."
